Assessment Group Interview Project

The UCI Assessment Group conducted over 70 face-to-face interviews with UCI juniors. Through this assessment, aimed at better understanding what enhances academic engagement in the classroom, three themes emerged: Relevance, Passion, and Respect. Students expressed that teaching was most effective when the relevance of their coursework was explicitly communicated, when professors conveyed their passion for the material, and when they felt respected by faculty. Understanding the student experience through assessment is fundamental to the continuous improvement of undergraduate programs.
