General Education Requirements

UCI’s Council on Educational Policy (CEP) has approved eight student learning outcomes for General Education.

The assessment of learning outcomes in GE is proceeding category by category. The first category assessed was Category I: Writing. Assessment of both lower-division and upper-division writing courses was carried out by the Office of the Campus Writing Coordinator, in conjunction with the DUE Assessment, Research & Evaluation Group, from the 2008-2009 through 2010-2011 academic years.

The Academic Senate Assessment Committee has approved a procedure for assessing the remaining GE categories that involves three stages, and takes into account the need to educate faculty on the GE course level learning outcomes.
